1 Idli Calories

How to make Soft & Spongy Idli – Rice Idli Recipe
If you are planning to make idli for the morning breakfast for next day you can start the process by 3-4 PM on the previous day.

Idli batter is made with soaking and fermenting rice and urad dal in a 2:1 ratio, here is the step by step process.
- Wash the rice and Urad dal separately. Soak them, separately, in enough water for 3-4 hours.
- Drain the soaked rice and uradal and with little water, grind them to a thick dropping consistency paste in the mixer or grinder.
- You can mix little bit of cooked rice with the lentil paste and add some salt.
- Keep the batter in a warm place for 8-9 hours (or overnight) to ferment it.
- After fermentation process gently mix the batter as you will find the batter raised and become sour.
- In an idli cooker rub the cooking oil on idli moulds of idli stand and place the idli stand in the cooker with some water at the bottom to generate steam which cooks idli.
- Close the Cooker lid and cook it for 5-10 Mins at high flame based on the size of the idli stand.
- Later turn of the stove and allow the cooker to cool for 5-10 min.
- Later open the cooker lid and take the idle stand out and separate the hot idlis for the mould.
Now hot idlis are ready to be served with spicy coconut chutney or tomato chutney along with hot sambar.

1.Thatte Idli
Idlis are made on small medium sized plates instead of regular idli moulds and cooked on idli steamer. Though we don’t see much difference in the taste but the shape of the plate (Thatte) is attractive as it will be bigger than the regular idlis. Recipe will be same as anna idli but only rawa is used in place of rice and curd is used to ferment it quick.

Sabbakki is the starch of the tapioca plant which extracted and processed into sabudana which looks like small white perls. This is used instead of rice in the preparation of Idli.
